About us
Passgenau Tech Consulting is a one-stop shop for AI transformation, based in Melbourne, Australia, and working with businesses right across the country and in the United States. We take you from the first conversation about where AI could help, through the prototype, the specification and the build, to a system your own team can run, with one team and one point of contact the whole way.
We do not pretend to do everything in house. Where a job needs deeper specialist work, we bring in partners we trust: cybersecurity partners for formal security assessments, marketing partners to help get what we build found once it is live, and hosting partners to host and run it if you would rather not. You still deal with us, and you never have to manage the handoffs yourself.
Our founder
Christian Lerrahn founded Passgenau and leads every engagement. For over two decades he has built and shipped software for startups and established businesses, mostly in Python and Go. He is always looking for the best tool for the job. In the past that meant IDEs and debuggers; nowadays AI is part of the toolbelt too. He has a particular interest in security and automation, and in helping clients ship software that is both secure and maintainable.
Most recently, Christian co-founded Detexian, a SaaS security posture management platform, spearheading the software engineering side of the product. Before that he was head of engineering and lead engineer at two other startups, after a career as a senior and lead engineer for businesses in a range of industries. Having filled all of those roles means he can work hands-on as a senior engineer, bring on less experienced engineers as a lead, or provide oversight at a higher level as head of engineering or fractional CTO.
Where we work
Being based in Melbourne, Australia, means local clients can have us in the room when that is the fastest way to get somewhere, whether that is a discovery workshop, a requirements interview or a handover at the end of a build. For clients in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and everywhere in between, that same work happens remotely, and we get on a plane when a project genuinely calls for it. In our experience, distance is rarely the thing that makes a project hard.
None of that stops at the Australian coastline. Our clients in California have included a managed service provider and a law firm, and we have worked with US businesses before them and since. The time difference is wide enough that it stops being a nuisance and starts being useful: our working day sits inside their night, so things move while their office is closed, and we take the early morning or the late evening when something has to be talked through live.
How we work
We are pragmatic. We take care of what you need, whether that is building software, training your existing team or helping you hire good engineers, and we give straight advice on software architecture and on the strengths and weaknesses of different tech stacks. If you want to learn to ship fast and iterate, we can set up an agile process for you to follow. The company is called Passgenau, German for made to fit precisely, because the aim is to provide what fits without overcomplicating things.
