Brisbane

Software that fits how Brisbane businesses work.

We work with businesses across Australia, Brisbane included. Most engagements start the same way: something important is running on a spreadsheet nobody wants to touch.

Start here

Tell us what you are trying to do.

We reply within one business day. Naming the spreadsheet is a perfectly good place to start.

Or call +61 419 107 150

Every field is required.

  • A specification everyone signs up to before a line of code gets written.
  • Software shaped around your process, rather than your process reshaped around software.
  • We come up for the parts of a project that need someone in the room.
  • One point of contact, with trusted partners for cybersecurity, marketing and hosting when the job calls for them.
Across Australia

Most of it remote, the deciding week in person.

We are based in Melbourne and work with clients around the country. Building travels perfectly well over a wire. We would rather spend the travel budget on the week that settles what gets built at all.

Interviews with the people doing the work

Sitting with the people who actually do the job, including the steps that never make it into a process document. That week is worth flying for, because it is usually where the cost is hiding.

Told early if you should not build

Sometimes the honest answer is that something off the shelf will do, or that the spreadsheet has another year in it. We would rather say so than take the work.

Yours to keep

Documented, tested, and structured so your own team can change it without us. We would rather you did not need us next year.

Services

Every step, from idea to production.

The whole journey is open to Brisbane businesses, from working out where AI helps to a system your team runs, and what each step actually involves is set out below. These two are where most engagements start, because you cannot build the right thing until somebody has written down what it is.

Step 1 · Orient

Training in AI use

For companies that want to leverage AI but do not know where to start.

Where AI tools genuinely save time, where they quietly invent things, and how to tell the difference before it reaches a customer. Practical sessions on your own work. Often the cheapest thing on this list, and occasionally it removes the need for everything else on it.

  • A plain-English grounding for everyone involved
  • A shortlist of use cases worth trying in your business
  • Working prompts and workflows for real tasks
  • Ground rules for data, confidentiality, and review

Fractional CTO

Senior technical leadership part-time: strategy, architecture, hiring.

For businesses with no shortage of ideas and nobody senior enough to choose between them. A few days a month on strategy, architecture and hiring, with the decisions written down along with why they were made. The most common thing we say in this role is not yet, which is cheaper than any of the alternatives.

  • A technical strategy tied to the business plan
  • Architecture decisions written down and justified
  • Hiring: role definition, screening, technical interviews
  • A regular, honest view of delivery risk

Step 2 · Prove

Prototyping with AI

Test an idea in days with a working prototype, before committing to a build.

For the idea nobody has actually seen yet. Something thin and real in days, aimed at the assumption most likely to sink the plan, and discarded on purpose if it does. It settles an argument faster than another meeting will, and being wrong costs a fortnight instead of a quarter.

  • A working prototype real people can try, not a slide deck
  • The riskiest assumption tested first
  • An honest read on whether the idea is worth building
  • A prototype that is thrown away on purpose, or a clear path to production

Turn fuzzy ideas into clear, buildable specs before code.

Where most engagements start. We sit with the people doing the job, including the steps that never made it into a process document, and turn that into a written specification with acceptance criteria. You can build from it, or take it elsewhere and collect quotes against it. Both are fine by us.

  • Stakeholder interviews and a written brief
  • User flows and clear acceptance criteria
  • API and data contracts where relevant
  • A scope that can be estimated and challenged

Custom applications engineered in Python and Go, prototype to production.

The one we are asked for most often here. Software built around how you actually work, in Python or Go, usually replacing a spreadsheet that quietly became load-bearing. Small increments you can use as they land, deployment and monitoring from day one, and a handover your own team can pick up.

  • A working application, not a demo
  • Clean, documented, testable code you own
  • Deployment and monitoring set up from day one
  • A handover you can actually pick up

Modern sites shipped fast with AI-accelerated workflows.

Built quickly using AI where it helps and reviewed properly where it matters. Fast, accessible, works on a phone, structured so search engines can make sense of it, and editable by you afterwards. Hosting, forms and analytics set up and tested rather than assumed to be fine, with our marketing partners on hand to help people find it.

  • A fast, accessible, responsive site
  • Content you can edit without calling us
  • Analytics and forms wired up
  • Hosting and deployment sorted

A Saleor and Hugo storefront you own outright, with nobody taking a cut of every sale.

A store you own outright: Saleor on your own infrastructure, Hugo generating the storefront as static files. It is the same instinct as replacing the spreadsheet, applied to the platform fee. Worth doing once the percentage has become a real number, or once your pricing is more complicated than a hosted plan will allow. Our hosting partners can keep it running, and our marketing partners can help fill it with orders.

  • Saleor running on infrastructure you control, not a tenant on someone else's
  • A Hugo storefront that serves as static files and does not fall over on your biggest day
  • Catalogue, customers and orders in a database you can query, export and back up yourself
  • Payments, tax, shipping and fulfilment wired to the providers you already use

Step 5 · Secure

Security automation

Security insight and processes automated across every system you run, not only the delivery pipeline.

Patching, scanning, backups and access reviews that run on their own rather than when somebody remembers. Most clients reach this after a customer or an insurer starts asking, and the aim is that the answer is already sitting there instead of needing a week of preparation. It also covers the processes around it, such as offboarding that reaches every system and insight drawn from your SaaS and identity data. If the insurer wants an independent assessment, our cybersecurity partners provide one.

  • Security data from your SaaS apps, cloud accounts and identity provider pulled together in one place
  • The few findings worth acting on, rather than a dashboard of everything
  • On- and offboarding automated, so access starts on day one and ends on the last
  • Dependency, secret and container scanning and hardened builds in your pipeline

Hands-on upskilling across the modern web stack.

Hands-on days across the modern web stack, run against your own codebase rather than a tidy demo project. TypeScript, React, testing, accessibility, deployment. Aimed at teams who would rather own the next change themselves than raise a ticket for it.

  • Sessions built around your codebase
  • Exercises you keep afterwards
  • Written notes and reference material
  • Follow-up time for questions once it lands

When the AI-built prototype breaks in production, we stabilise it, refactor it, and make it maintainable.

A prototype that became the product without anyone ever deciding that it should. Stabilise the outages and any data loss first, then work out honestly what is worth keeping, then add the tests and structure that make it safe to change. It is a rescue, not a rewrite pitch.

  • The immediate failures diagnosed and fixed
  • A blunt assessment of what to keep and what to rewrite
  • Tests, structure, and dependency hygiene
  • A codebase you can change without fear

Malware removed, the way in closed, and the site hardened so it does not happen twice.

Malware removed, backdoors and rogue accounts cleared out, the entry point found and shut, then updates, backups and monitoring so the next attempt fails. WordPress, Joomla and TYPO3 mostly. If the site turns out to be beyond saving, rebuilding it properly is often cheaper than defending it, and our hosting partners can give the new one a safer home.

  • The site cleaned and serving what it is supposed to serve
  • The entry point found and closed, not just the symptoms removed
  • Backdoors, injected pages and rogue accounts cleared out
  • Updates, backups and monitoring set up so it does not recur

Somewhere in most businesses there is a spreadsheet that nobody ever meant to make important. It reconciles two systems that were never properly introduced, it has a tab nobody living understands, and the person who built it left in 2019. It works perfectly well, right up until the week it does not.

Bespoke software is what replaces that properly: built around how you actually work rather than how a vendor assumed you would. It is rarely the first step, though. Requirements gathering comes first, because the expensive mistakes are the ones where two people in the same meeting meant subtly different things by the same sentence and nobody found out until it had been built twice. A written specification is also the only fair way to compare one quote against another.

Not every business that calls has a spreadsheet problem. Some have an idea nobody has seen yet, where a prototype settles the argument faster than another meeting will. Some have no shortage of ideas and nobody senior enough to choose between them, which is what fractional CTO work is for. Some have a customer asking for security evidence they cannot currently produce, or a website doing the business no favours. A few would rather learn it than have it done for them, so we teach AI use and the modern web instead. And a few have already built the replacement in a hurry, which is how a rescue usually begins.

Two more are worth naming, because they rarely appear on anybody’s plan. Sites get hacked, almost always by a script working through the internet looking for one known vulnerable plugin, and the cleanup is only worth paying for if it closes the way in as well. And a store handing a percentage of every order to a hosted platform eventually reaches the point where running it yourself on Saleor and Hugo is simply cheaper. That is the same instinct as replacing the spreadsheet, pointed at the platform fee.
